Strengthening Self-Trust: The Art of Honoring Our Promises

Besides the Follow Your Intuition Series, I have started the Believe in Yourself Series, as these are my guiding concepts for 2025. We start this series with the idea of keeping commitments to ourselves.
While scrolling on Instagram I stumbled upon Steven from Diary of a CEO talking about commitment to ourselves. The reel gave me the idea of this series, as I recognised it as an important part of self-belief. Breaking a promise to yourself is like chipping away at your self-belief. On the other hand, consistency in keeping your commitments is building your self-belief foundation.
In the reel, Steven says:
The great consequence in life is not keeping commitments to yourself. It compounds personal evidence which is deposited in this instructional manual of who you are, how you behave, how you show up, and what you are capable of, all those tiny little commitments. You can get into a downward commitment spiral, and because of that, you do not have faith in what you do. So isn’t it lovely to know that maybe to turn that into a positive upward spiral is just to keep that tiny commitment you said you are going to do today? You don’t have to move Mt. Everest or go on a 7-day retreat. How about you keep the commitment of going to bed at 10 p.m. today, and you stack that, stack those things for a week, a month, a year. The commitments we keep to ourselves are the most important things for compounding the evidence in our favor.
In easier words, keeping commitments to ourselves is doing what you said you were going to do.
Following through activates the power inside of you.
It increases your self-confidence levels because you signal to yourself that your goals and values matter.
It is not only a matter of discipline, but also a matter of self-love.
Keeping commitments to yourself is a way of saying, “I matter, my dreams and goals matter and I’m worth investing in.
It doesn’t have to be perfect. it has to be realistic.
So how do you commit to yourself?
- Know your goals or what you are working towards and why?
- Have systems in place to accomplish the goals #atomichabits
- Follow through
- Have trust and faith that things will work
Example: If you want to be a content creator.
- What systems do you have for your content creation?
- Have you built a routine around it so that you do not have to think how and where to start every time?
Either way, you are building a muscle.
You are building a muscle that says I do what I say, I keep the commitments that I make.
Or you are building a muscle that says I make excuses I can’t be counted on.
I hope this was helpful. Let me know which goals you are following in 2025 and how you are keeping your commitments to yourself.
